This handcrafted, hexagonal bug hotel takes inspiration from the natural geometry of a bee comb, both in structure and purpose. It is designed to offer shelter and nesting space for solitary bees and other beneficial insects such as ladybugs, lacewings, and solitary wasps.
The main body is made of natural, untreated wood, and is compartmentalized with an assortment of materials, primarily sliced wooden logs and bamboo canes. These materials are thoughtfully arranged within the hexagonal frame, each piece drilled with varying hole sizes to accommodate different insect species.
-
The wooden discs dominate the structure, featuring cleanly drilled holes that mimic the hollow stems insects often use in the wild.
-
Bamboo tubes and smaller hollow reeds fill the gaps, providing additional refuge and visual texture.
-
Nestled in the bottom-right corner is a striking metal butterfly ornament, with weathered rust tones and a screw attachment, adding a decorative yet rustic charm to the piece.
Mounted against a wooden fence, this bug hotel not only serves a vital ecological role in supporting pollinators and pest controllers, but also functions as a unique piece of garden art.
Give solitary bees a perfect home by placing your bug hotel facing south, in a warm, sunny location, and right beside bee-friendly plants. This setup helps nest-building females locate and use the holes more easily.
Our labels don’t go to waste — they grow. Each one is made from plantable paper, infused with native wildflower seeds that bees and insects love. Simply plant, water, and watch nature bloom.
